children at play
singing, dancing, never a care
was I ever that wise?
looking all around
to ensure no one sees
old man skipping
rainwater gurgles
through the downspout
below, the river roars
backyard emperor
cat surveys realm from porch step
squirrel chatters
they danced all night
the band packed up and went home
two hours ago
full moon overhead
some call it a dreamers moon
others, something else
suddenly awake
fumble for paper and pen
another haiku
cat feigns indifference
hoping that noisy bluejay
would just scold closer
